Once this is installed you will need to allow Mac Os to open the software. This can be done by going to System Preferences->Security and allowing the software.
The above is very vague. I looked in there and don’t see any reference to “the software”, siril, scripts or anything else. Where exactly do I need to go in system preferences, privacy & security” ?
By default unidentified developers who are not in the Mac store need to be manually allowed. If any application is not allowed, Mac OS will show a pop up window saying the application could not be opened. If you do see this you navigate to the Apple icon, then system preferences, then Security. At this point you should see the application at the bottom that was disallowed. You can then select “Open Anyway” and it will give permission for Mac OS to open the application. This only needs to be done once so if you did not see this error message, then the application should have already opened.
Hello! Running Siril 1.2.0 and Mac OS 14.1.1. Siril doesn’t allow me to install Starnet++. I’m in Siril’s Settings/Miscellaneous but continue to get this message “You don’t have permission to execute this file: /Applications/Starnetv2CLI_MacOS/starnet++
Any insight and help would be appreciated.
Thanks
You need to give permission to run scripts from unidentified developers on a Mac. Go to the Apple Button, then System Preferences, then Security. You should see a notice at the bottom saying Starnet could not run. There should also be a button that says “Open Anyway” click this button and try again.
I’m with you, Ray! Also running Siril 1.2.0 on my Macbook Pro with MacOS 14.1.1 … and get the exact same failure and runaround you are describing.
Have gone to APPLE , System Prefs, Privacy & Security, as MSG suggests, there’s nothing there about starnet++ and/or option to run it anyway. I’m afraid Apple is being a bit obtuse here. If you find a solution please let me know here, I’ll do likewise after I recover from my frustration!
I’ve been doing some research on this issue. It’s been 9 months or so since I installed this on my computer. Have you tried to run Starnet outside of Siril first? The reason I ask is that I may be mistaken about where you allow this script to run on a Mac. Normally I screen record tutorials but I did not for this so I may be mistaken. If you can manually trigger the pop up to occur asking you to allow Starnet by running outside of Siril, that may solve the issue.
OK, I DID get mine up and running, ut still not certain when or where the magic button was pushed.
At first thought maybe I could circumvent the problem by brushing off my very ancient Unix terminal knowledge (been over 10 years since I used it, before retirement) and so went in to the Siril script and Starnet folder (both placed in /Applications) ” and made four files (Siril script, starnet++, and the two big lib files) to be user executable via “chmod 744 filename”. But still got the message from within Siril “cannot be opened because the source cannot be verified” message (although it MAY have helped Siril to actually see the files … it complained about the lib file rather than starnet++ itself.)
So, went back and tried the proscribed fix: First, selecting one of the four files made executable by going to /Applications and selecting a file and then
[Apple] > System Settings … > Privacy & Security > (scroll to the very bottom ) > click on the Open Anyway Button ( which DID appear this time , earlier attempts didn ‘t offer it as an option, only Cancel or MoveToBin). Actually this was done more than once, first time I used finger touch for password verification, didn’t seem to work, second time I entered Password by hand and made sure I hit the Apply button (which I may have failed to do beforehand.
Anyway, repeated this for each of the four files just to be sure … although after the first, I don’t think I saw the complaint. THEN from Siril I opened my processed file and then > Image Processing > Star Processing > Star Star Removal … and yet AGAIN got the warning that it was from a nonverifiable developer … but it DID have the Go Ahead Anyway button … and it WORKED!!!
Keith, that’s great news. I’m glad you got it to work.
I cannot get Siril 1.2.0 to run Starnet++ to run on my Mac.
When I start the “Starnet Removal Tool” the “Execute” button in the lower left corner of the popup window is greyed out.
Any idea as to why?
I’m not sure but did you approve the script from unidentified developers? Others have had issues with this and not everyone had the popup occur in the same place that I did. If it’s greyed out, this leads me to believe that the Mac Os has disabled the script.
Nope! will not work. I can navigate to the Starnet++ file but that is as far as I can get. In Preferences – App Store and Identified is checked but there is no sign of any approval or permission to proceed. I do hope someone can help. I have searched and searched online trying to get Starnet to work on my Mac.
Thank you for this thread.
I have also been in a circle in trying to get Starnet onto my Siril application.I found all of your words helpful. I know I gave permission in earlier attempts and had seen it listed on my Security window. It is Uber the App management tab.
Mac warned me of possible malware but I trust Starnet because I trust Siril and it was recommended by Seestar S50.owners around the world.
Today I am trying again and get all the passwords in and ‘run anyway’ and I opened Starnet independently in my Application folder as suggested to see if I could jog it into life.
It is sitting in my Miscellaneous page and in the top file box but the Apply button will not respond.
I decided to force the MacBook to shut down. An old fit it trick from the past.
I still have the “you do not have permission “ message and still I wonder how to succeed
I have now managed to get the Starnet into my box on the Miscellaneous in Siril preferences I clicked the down arrow and selected from my applications file. I have failed again to get the commands into the Terminal. However I didn’t notice this instruction list mentioned that that was needed.
Starnet is still not functioning
I have now been successful getting the commands into the Terminal own my Mac OS operating system. The commands were at the Siril www under processing/star processing/StarNet star removal. The step by step instructions were helpful.
All I have to do now is get the alert and go and click the permission.
The Starnet app is correctly copied into the Miscellaneous tap on Preference on Siril.
I’ve had StarNet++ installed for several months, but never got the definitive solution to get it working.
Lived on a Mac for forty years, but never ventured into the Terminal zone.
…”and made four files (Siril script, starnet++, and the two big lib files) to be user executable via “chmod 744 filename”…”
Could someone please spell out for me how to accomplish this? Thx
Hey folks. I just watched one of Nico Carver’s vids where he went through the permission changes in Terminal. Being a visual person his video has been eye opening for me. I believe I have a good understanding of the process.
Thanks
